The Investment Trust was established to grow and manage the asset base on behalf of the Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa Tāmaki Nui-a-Rua Settlement Trust. Its mission is to create sustainable, intergenerational wealth through prudent, low-risk investment strategies that align with tikanga and the four pou of development: tikanga, tahua, taiao, and tangata.
Mō te Tūranga | About the Role:
Key Responsibilities
Trustees are responsible for making quality decisions in line with the Trust Deed, SIPO, and annual plan, ensuring strong governance, investment diversification, risk management, and ethical oversight. With $67.5M in initial assets, the Trust is entering a direct investment phase – including commercial property ventures and strategic partnerships – and will oversee the establishment of asset-holding entities.
Responsibilities include:
- Thought leadership
- Strategic investment planning
- Fiduciary duty
- Compliance with legal, statutory and trust guiding documents.
- Financial oversight
- Build and strengthen relationships with iwi, mana whenua, and key stakeholders
- Guide organisation wide continuous improvement with respect to systems, processes and organisational capability
Mōu | About You:
You’ll bring commercial acumen, governance experience, and a deep understanding of iwi values and aspirations. Knowledge of finance, investment strategy, risk oversight, or legal/commercial frameworks is desirable. You’ll also have:
- Strong understanding of kaupapa Māori and a commitment to mana Motuhake
- Experience in governance of investment or commercial operations, ideally at some scale.
- Vocational experience in a relevant area of investment practice. Been part of a team involved in the development (and / or implementation) of a diversified investment strategy, including direct investments
- Strategic thinking and the ability to see the “big picture”
- Integrity, accountability, and sound judgement
- Collaborative, respectful communicator who values collective decision-making
- A willingness to learn and grow with the role
