About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga
We’re looking for someone with experience in driving organisational performance and improvement, to support us to achieve our mission. You’ll be joining a small, agile organisation with the opportunity to influence change. It’s a unique opportunity to work in a broad and varied role which has the potential to accelerate your career.
In this role, you will maximise our impact by linking strategy and delivery, while ensuring compliance with government and corporate accountability requirements in a simple and efficient way. The role spans organisational strategy, planning and performance, risk management and assurance. It includes setting out and reporting on a clear, integrated work programme to ensure that we stay on track to deliver on our targets and functional responsibilities.
You will:
- Maintain a strategic framework that meets our statutory obligations and helps us to monitor effective delivery of outputs, impacts and outcomes
- Work with leaders and teams to develop and track a set of effective non-financial performance measures and indicators
- Define and report against a clear, integrated work programme, using mechanisms and systems to ensure we stay on track to deliver on targets and functional responsibilities
- Maintain approaches to identify and manage risks and opportunities that may have a significant impact on our performance
- Ensure compliance with government and corporate accountability requirements in a simple and efficient way
- Establish professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including across the Agency, Ministry of Education, central agencies and external service providers.
- Provide general advice and support to the Executive Leadership Team or Ministers on organisational matters
- Develop and enhance our strategy, capability and performance in relation to Māori Crown relationships.
Salary range: $119,171 - $144,560 per annum + 3% kiwi saver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mōhou ake
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Knowledge of government and public sector processes, public sector accountability and non-financial performance reporting, with Education sector an advantage
- Experience in developing and reporting against work programmes that align to organisational strategies
- Ability to assess critically the operating context and identify risks, opportunities and performance implications
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including facilitation and influence
- Ability to develop and maintain the capability of the organisation to engage with Māori and to understand Māori perspectives.
- The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
About our group and team | Mātau rōpū ake
The Charter School Agency is a departmental agency that receives services and support from the Ministry of Education. The Agency opened on 1 July 2024 and is responsible for implementing and operating the charter school model.
