This two-year fixed term role based in Dunedin, is a sign of the commitment between Te Papa Atawhai and Kā Rūnaka ki Ōtākou to enhance the engagement of whānau, hapū and iwi to deliver on our conservation goals and to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
He angitūtanga: About the Role
As the Tumu Kaupapa Atawhai your primary focus is to provide strategic advice and support to Kā Rūnaka and Te Papa Atawhai in the Southern South Island Region as it relates to the collective takiwā of the three papatipu rūnaka of Kā Rūnaka ki Ōtākou.
You will lead the strategic alignment between Te Papa Atawhai and Kā Rūnaka in the context of section 4 and Treaty principles. Central to this role is the protection and enhancement of the Ngāi Tahu Settlement, and particularly, development of mechanisms that support the rights and interests of Kā Rūnaka ki Ōtākou in partnership with Te Papa Atawhai. The primary approach to achieve this will be through co-design.
As a natural communicator you will support and facilitate internal and external relationships to promote the strategic and operational needs of Ngāi Tahu Whānui to exercise their rights and interests as rangatira and kaitiaki in conservation management.
The candidate would be expected to work a four day week (Full Time), as a contractor.

To be successful in the role it is desired you are able to read, write and converse in te Reo Māori, have a strong knowledge of tikanga Māori, kaitiakitanga, wairuatanga, manaakitanga and iwitanga with excellent written and oral communication skills.

- You will be comfortable engaging and working in partnership with iwi and tangata whenua and demonstrate an understanding of the implications of the Treaty on today's society and conservation.
