Ko wai mātou | About us
Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura) is the largest state-funded school in Aotearoa, supporting up to 24,000 ākonga at any given time. It provides personalised, flexible learning programmes across early childhood, primary, and secondary education, including NCEA Levels 1–3, with a strong focus on young adult and adult ākonga. Its kaimahi are based across the country, with three-quarters working as Kaiako.
The vision of Te Kura is to empower ākonga to achieve their educational and personal goals, enabling them to become engaged, confident members of their whānau and communities.
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role
The Senior Strategic Advisor – Pacific reports to the Communications Manager and contributes to the development and delivery of Pacific strategy to support Pacific learners and communities across Te Kura. The role works closely with the Chief Executive, Senior Leadership Team, and leaders across the organisation to ensure Pacific perspectives are considered in policy, curriculum, communications, and organisational planning.
A key part of the role involves building constructive relationships with Pacific communities, families, and education providers to help ensure Te Kura remains connected to the needs and aspirations of Pacific learners. You will also represent Te Kura in national and regional Pacific education networks and support leaders to engage effectively with Pacific communities.
The role supports monitoring and reporting on Pacific learner engagement, achievement, and wellbeing, helping maintain visibility of outcomes and identify opportunities to strengthen delivery.
You will also contribute to building cultural capability across the organisation and supporting the recognition of Pacific success and leadership within Te Kura.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
You will have:
- Experience in a senior advisory or leadership role within the education, public, or
- community sectors
- An understanding of Pacific cultures, languages, values, and education priorities
- Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing strategic frameworks or initiatives
- Strong relationship-building skills with Pacific communities, stakeholders, and internal teams
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills
- Proven ability to influence and lead across diverse teams in a complex environment
