About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga
- Two permanent senior policy analyst roles
- Based in Wellington.
The roles sit in the Learner Success and te Tiriti Group. The Group is part of Te Pou Kaupapahere, the Ministry’s wider policy shop.
We have the ability to make a real difference in children and young people’s lives. Our Group is concerned with ākonga and their whānau who the education system is not yet delivering for. This includes those ākonga and their whānau who have lived experiences of disability and neurodivergence, those who have experiences in care, those who are Māori, and those who are Pacific. In addition to this focus on achieving equity, we also have a focus on meeting obligations around te Tiriti.
The work programme is multi-faceted, can involve regulatory change, requires innovative thinking and moving quickly with our operational colleagues. We are ambitious and we strive for excellence in our work.
To be successful in this role, you will need to be comfortable collaborating. Our teams works with a range of internal teams with diverse work programmes. We also work with colleagues across the social and justice sectors.
Salary range: $100,296 to $144,560 per annum + KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mōhou ake
You will have experience in, and a sound understanding of, public policy, and its development and implementation. Your relationship management skills will be exemplary, particularly with operational colleagues.
You will also offer:
- Qualifications from a relevant discipline, such as public policy, economics, or community development, or the equivalent professional experience
- The ability to work autonomously, demonstrate self-motivation and remain calm, focussed and resilient under pressure
- Knowledge of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
- The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

About our group and team | Mātau rōpū ake
We have 2 permanent roles:
1: Within the Learning Support Team: This role is for someone with an interest in the education experiences and outcomes of learners with additional learning needs, including disabled and neurodivergent learners, and learners at risk of disengaging from education.
This team has a busy and exciting work programme that covers strategic, regulatory and funding policy. The team engages in mahi that is relevant and responsive to the needs of learners, with a focus on reducing barriers to learning and supporting equitable outcomes.
2: Within the Investing in Educational Wellbeing Team: This role is for someone with an interest in child protection as the work spans the Education input to the Government’s response to both the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care, and Dame Karen Poutasi’s review titled Towards a stronger safety net to prevent abuse of children.
The team, located within the Learner Success and te Tiriti Group, have a big and important job to do.
This is a unique opportunity to be working on some of the Government’s priority policy areas. The team is collaborative, and you will also enjoy this opportunity on a day to day basis.
