Te Rau Tauawhi is Massey University's Māori Student Support Centre, providing pastoral, academic and cultural support to Māori students across our campuses and distance learning community. Through proactive engagement, culturally responsive support and strong partnerships, we help Ākonga Māori thrive throughout their university journey.
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Māori Student Coordinator to join our Te Rau Tauawhi team at our Ōtehā Campus, Auckland. This is a fixed term full time position for a 12 month period.
As a member of Te Rau Tauawhi, you will coordinate academic and pastoral support initiatives, build strong relationships across the University and wider community, and contribute to programmes and interventions that improve Māori student retention, progression and success.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing early engagement and ongoing support to Māori students and their whānau.
- Coordinating academic and pastoral support programmes and interventions.
- Supporting tauira to navigate university systems, student services and external support agencies.
- Building strong relationships with academic staff, central services, student associations and community stakeholders.
- Coordinating events, workshops and kaupapa Māori initiatives that foster belonging, engagement and success.
- Monitoring student engagement and supporting targeted interventions for at-risk students.
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of Māori student success initiatives and support services.
- Maintaining accurate records and reporting on student engagement and support outcomes.
Mōu | About you
- A strong commitment to Māori development, success and wellbeing.
- Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the ability to apply its principles in a tertiary education environment.
- Understanding of te reo Māori and tikanga Māori, or a commitment to further developing these capabilities.
- Experience in student support, learning support, pastoral care, education or a related field.
- Strong relationship building skills and the ability to work collaboratively across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Excellent communication, coordination and organisational skills.
An undergraduate qualification and experience within a tertiary education environment would be highly advantageous.
The salary band for this position is $71,274 - $101,329 remuneration based on skills and experience.
