Curriculum Designer – Curriculum & Assessment Change Programme
Join Te Poutāhū | Curriculum Centre as a Curriculum Designer, contributing to a key programme that partners across business groups to deliver national curriculum and assessment priorities.
We are seeking an experienced and confident professional to lead the design of high-quality, culturally responsive curriculum and assessment initiatives aligned with The New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa.
This role sits at the intersection of innovation and transformation, ensuring Māori medium learners can access the knowledge and skills needed to succeed across both Māori and English-medium contexts. You will work collaboratively across programme workstreams to ensure cohesive, aligned delivery of priorities.
Salary range: $119,171 - $144,560 per annum + kiwi saver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

To be successful in this role you will bring the following:
You are a thoughtful and skilled curriculum expert who brings both technical expertise and cultural capability. You will have:
- Proven experience in using and/or designing the New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa frameworks
- Strong understanding of kaupapa Māori approaches and culturally responsive practice
- Experience working in, or alongside, Kaupapa Māori, Māori-medium and/or English-medium education settings
- Ability to translate complex curriculum ideas into practical, engaging teaching and learning opportunities
- Excellent collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills
- A commitment to improving outcomes for Māori learners
Preferred:
- Teaching background (primary or secondary)
- Fluency or working proficiency in te reo Māori
- Experience with curriculum refresh or national initiatives

The Māori-medium team plays a key role in the Curriculum and Assessment Change Programme by growing capability and shared understanding of kaupapa Māori and Māori-medium education needs. The team strengthens the evidence base for curriculum and assessment change, ensures coherence between the New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, and supports high-quality design and implementation for kaupapa Māori and Māori-medium contexts. It embeds kaupapa Māori voices throughout the programme, enables targeted engagement across pathways, and ensures qualifications design effectively supports ākonga, kaiako, and tumuaki in kaupapa Māori and Māori-medium settings.
