We are seeking applications from experienced and motivated Senior Solicitors (Rōia Matua) with particular expertise in property law to join our legal team at Te Tai Ōhanga The Treasury.
About the Role
We are looking for candidates for the role of Senior Solicitor Bona Vacantia.
This role offers the opportunity to provide internal advice and external support to the public on the Treasury’s bona vacantia function. This function supports the transfer of ownerless property to the Crown, and applications from the public to receive ownerless property. In addition, we are seeking candidates who can contribute expert property law advice to other matters.
We are looking to undertake a refresh of our bona vacantia service; the goal is to make the function more efficient, improve public-facing processes, and update our practice over time to take account of complex property issues. The successful candidate should also have a good understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and be capable of improving processes to appropriately take account of Māori interests.

We are looking for qualified candidates with at least 5 years prior legal experience, who can provide legal advice on complex property matters and are interested in broadening their legal experience.
In addition to supporting our bona vacantia function, we expect the successful candidate to support other areas of work at a senior level. The Treasury legal team advises across a broad range of subject areas relevant to the Treasury’s work, including on commercial transactions, finance and capital markets, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, complex statutory regimes and across general public and commercial law matters.
