This is a fixed term opportunity for 6 months.
The Project Accountant – Capital plays a key role in supporting the Ministry’s delivery of education infrastructure. You will work closely with Property Delivery teams to provide expert financial services, ensuring strong financial oversight and consistency across hundreds of capital projects nationwide. From budgeting and forecasting to reporting and variance analysis, you’ll deliver financial insights that help inform sound investment decisions and ensure value for money.
This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to infrastructure that directly impacts learning environments and student outcomes.
Salary band: A8. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary that reflects their skills and experience.

About you | Mōhou ake
You will be a detail-oriented finance professional with experience in project accounting or financial analysis, ideally in a capital project or asset-intensive environment.
You’ll bring:
- At least two years’ experience in a project accounting or financial analyst role
- Sound understanding of financial systems and data management, with the ability to generate clear, actionable insights
- Familiarity with budgeting, forecasting, accruals, and capitalisation processes
- Experience supporting complex project delivery and evaluating financial risks
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams, including with programme managers, infrastructure leads, and finance hubs
- A commitment to continuous improvement and customer-focused financial support
- The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
About our group and team | Mātau rōpū ake
Te Pou Rangatōpū | Corporate group is responsible for delivering essential Ministry-wide statutory and corporate functions. We enable the organisation to operate effectively and help fulfil the statutory and reporting obligations of Te Tāhuhu. The Capital Investments Team plays a critical role in supporting the capital delivery of school property projects. The team partners with delivery teams from project inception through to completion, providing financial insights, analysis, and advice at every stage. By ensuring strong financial oversight and alignment with strategic objectives, the Capital Investments Team helps drive successful outcomes and deliver value across the school property portfolio.
